“I’m always angry”-The Hulk

This story is about a 25-year-old young man who looks back at his life, making a realization and trying to find a reason behind all the wrongs that he had done. The young man was an amateur athlete who wanted to achieve great heights.

But? Do you think it’s possible when you cry, break down mentally or emotional, throwing racquets every time you give a sub standarded performance? Can we win tournaments by being a cry baby on the court?

The young man did all the hard-work which yielded him good results against amateurs but the same did not apply when he played with the experienced.

What could have been wrong with the young man? He got it all-playing 50 rallies each time, he started one in the tournament. He was on his toes throughout the match. What else does an athlete need to win the match?

The answer is “simple”. But, you will find out the answer yourself at the end of the story.

He was not able to find the answer himself until 25, he always questioned himself about his failures, but at that age his consciousness only had the maturity to tell him ” that he was right, all the time he failed”, because it was to his conscious that he had done all the hard-work.

“Controlling emotions”, wasn’t easy for this young man- he never thought that this would be the reason for all his failures, throwing racquets during practice matches, crying or breaking down when the opponent wins a set. Never had he, thought that when Plan A doesn’t work against an opponent there 25 other alphabets with the word “Plan” prefixed to it.

He always stuck to his strength but did not realise that every opponent or athlete undergoes training to break the strength of the other. The young man threw tantrums on the court, he doesn’t convince his mind to win the game but tells to himself that he is going to lose because his strengths and strategies are conquered by another.

Looking at the eye of the opponent and his entire body inorder to analyse the moves made by him is one thing that every sports man needs to learn.

We all play “Chess”, we atleast know the rules and we have seen people playing. Similary every game depends on the move the players make. Certain games let you think for 2-3 minutes, the others let you think for 2-3 seconds. But the differences are made only when you use the time effectively for thinking, analysing and fixing alone.

The young man sorted this out at the age of 25, still not an expert in it. He still throws tantrums on the court.

Hulk says “I’m always angry in the Avengers”, so is the young man trying to make himself a deal with Hulk who is within himself. Anger.. Anger.. Anger is everything that comes from your alter ego. The alter ego keeps you satisfied only for that moment, later when your conscious takes over you, You will realise that you have lost so much because of your alter-ego.

The young-man was coached by one of the best in the cities. During a practice match with one of his closest friend, he lost it all. He struggled to win a point and threw the racquet out of anger. He satisfied his alter-ego at that moment. But, he did not realise that he had an important match the very next day. The coach never bought him racquet or never let him borrow one. He was suspeneded from the team for a week.

” Win or lose” , respect what you’ve got. Things and people belong to you for a reason. You can’t throw everyone like the racquet, you threw and broke. You have wasted yourself , you lost a point and an opportunity to play nationals because of your anger- the coach said.

The young man, played the rest of the tournaments with the broken bat which was repaired by his coach, respecting the game and the people around him. He was able to win because he looked in to the eye of the opponent and visualised the moves made by him.

The answer is simple- Don’t let your emotions distract you from doing what needs to be done. Control your emotions so your emotions do not control you.
